Original Sokos Hotel Seurahuone Kotka has launched a new era in the hotel’s history with the completion of its new extension in the summer of 2025. As a result of the extension, the hotel’s room capacity has increased by 55 new rooms.
Franz was involved in the renovation, responsible for creating the concept and interior design of the new extension, as well as re-conceptualizing the previous expansion and renovating its rooms. In conjunction with the extension, the hotel’s main building also received a new, expanded suite and a restructuring of the lobby areas. Changes were also made to the breakfast facilities. Franz was responsible for the interior design of all these spaces.
The core concept of the design was locality—highlighting what makes Kotka a unique and distinctive city. Materials, colors, and details were chosen to establish a connection to the local environment and culture. Sustainability and timelessness are fundamental principles of the design, with an emphasis on high-quality, durable materials in the selection process.
The renewed hotel’s services, spaces, and customer experience collectively create a functional, welcoming environment that reflects the identity of Kotka and functions as a natural part of the city’s life. This marks a new chapter for the hotel, showcasing the city’s distinctive character and the rhythm of local life to visitors and guests.
